When the Internet gave way to social bookmarking, it also gave way to another opportunity where one can effectively execute his work from home. In particular, the huge benefit cited with social bookmarking for Internet marketers is its contribution to haul in traffic for the online entrepreneur’s site or business. The various social bookmarking sites like “Delicious”, “Digg”, “Propeller”, “Technorati”, “Stumbleupon”, to name a few, are useless if they don’t bring you huge amounts of targeted traffic. So, it’s best if you make sure that you are making the most out of these social bookmarking sites.

Michael V Lawrence asked: Social bookmarking sites are sites in which you can apply for a free membership and share web pages, articles and posts with other members. When joining, you are usually allowed to create a profile for yourself in which you can include a bio and links to your own site(s). If you created content or read something that you feel others would benefit from, you mark the site through your social bookmarking site for others to read. You can also browse content saved by other members.
As a blog owner, I immediately joined the top social bookmarking sites. I not only marked my own posts and sites but also others I felt that are providing quality content. I would routinely browse through the latest marks by other members and see what type of content they are saving.
I immediately began to see huge spikes in the traffic to my blog(s). At times, I would often see my first visitor before I was able to switch back to the window I was viewing prior to bookmarking my post. I would check my analytics and see a huge rush of visitors. I was really excited. I began to play around with the titles of my posts in an effort to gain more visitors. I found that if I titled a post like a news story the traffic was very high. I continued to do this for weeks.
I thought that this was great until I dug deeper into my analytics. When I looked deeper, I found extremely high bounce rates. Bounce rates are the percentage of people who exit on the page they landed on (meaning they read what I bookmarked, if that, and did not browse the rest of the content on my blog). I started to look at the referrers and the bounce rates and I found that 85-90% of the visitors from these sites bounced immediately, not good for someone trying to build a blog readership. I began to ask around in forums and found that many agreed with my findings because they experienced it themselves.
This is not to say that social bookmarking does not have its advantages because it does. You can drive hundreds, if not thousands of visitors to your blog, article or site. Maybe you will get some returning visitors or even a subscriber or two. Over time this can add up for you. If you expecting a great amount of “quality” traffic social bookmarking isn’t the answer. However I do not suggest ignoring these options for building some long-term subscribers or returning visitors.
Bookmarking Service

Vanessa A. Doctor asked:
Social bookmarking is a unique method for Internet users to store, organize, share and search bookmarks of web pages. In this system, users save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share.
The bookmarks are usually public, however depending on the service’s features, they may be saved privately, shared only with limited groups of people, or be shared only inside certain networks. Social bookmarking is a unique organizational process that goes further by making public the list of sites that you frequently visit. It is also the process of organizing your “favorite” websites, such as the ones you would like to re-visit. You can also bookmark them on a special social bookmarking website.

tdmatte asked: I hired a programmer to create a software program for my small biz. I would like to add a download link to my web site and use paypal for payments. How do I protect the software so not just anyone can download it. I’m worried about search engines finding it and returning it in results, and I’m also worried about a user ‘bookmarking’ the webpage and giving the url out to people. Any suggestions appreciated.

Jessica Swink asked: There are probably many things you want out of your online travel website: targeted marketing articles, strong SEO content writing and increased traffic to your site. You may not realize it, but there is another thing you will want your site to do: to get Dugg.
Digg is a social media site geared toward bookmarking. When users find what they are looking for online and like what they see, they have the ability to Digg it, or add it to a bookmarked list of other sites they enjoy.
How can a Digg account help your tourism or CVB site?
Use Digg to organize articles relevant to the interests of your business. Whether your destination is waterside or countryside, learn more about what your tourists are interested in to help promote your destination. Use Digg’s built-in search engine to find what interests your tourists. Promote your Web content on Digg to improve SEO. With a Digg account, you can repost all of the content on your site to your Digg site. By doing this, it is recirculated on the Web more, putting more eyes on what your company has to offer. Link with other businesses of the like to create a network. By using the Add Friends option, you can link yourself with other similar businesses to generate more hits on your Web site. Allow people to Digg your destination. After visiting your travel site, visitors can deside to Digg what they’ve read, adding your site to their Digg account. Doing so makes them more likely to share what they have found with others, giving your destination more publicity.Getting Dugg will not only help you tune into the travel industry around you, but more importantly help tourists dig your location.
